****WHEN TO CALL 911****
Sometimes people wonder when it is okay to call 911 and worry that they are bothering us if they do. That is not the case at all. We are here to serve you. We would much rather you error on the side of caution and call us rather than not reporting something. We need your help and love working with the community to problem solve and fight crime. A good rule of thumb on whether to call 911 or not is if something is in progress or an emergency, call 911. If it is not an emergency but you need to speak with a Ruston Officer right away, call the non-emergency dispatch number at 253-798-4721. If you just want to leave a routine message for Chief Kunkel or one of the officers, you can call 253-761-0272 and an officer will return your call at their earliest convenience.
****ONLINE CRIME REPORTING**** Online Crime and Lost Property Reporting. This is a site for filing a limited number of incident report types online. This site is not to be used to report emergencies, in-progress crimes, or previously reported crimes. This online system can be used to report lost property (excluding guns, passports, military ID, etc.), vandalism (not vehicle accidents or hit and runs), and stolen property/theft (excluding vehicles, guns, license plates, or fraud). Currently the Online Reporting System only supports Microsoft Internet Explorer. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. ****PET ADVISORY**** We have been informed by animal control that there is a canine distemper heavily affecting the raccoon population in the area. Common signs of this from the raccoons are gooey, mucous eyes and walking around in circles. It is very contagious and there is no cure for it, only preventative vaccines. The best prevention is to ensure your dogs are up to date with their yearly vaccinations. If you have an animal related complaint or concern, please contact Tacoma Animal Control at 253-627-(PETS). ****FACEBOOK**** Follow the Ruston Police Department on Facebook by clicking on the link below.
