Many Cities impose a local Business & Occupation  (B&O) tax. This tax is in addition to the B&O tax imposed by the State of Washington. The Department of Revenue does not administer or collect local Business & Occupation taxes. The City of Ruston requires business to submit B&O taxes quarterly, even if the amount owed is zero. You can drop off a payment into the City’s dropbox or send it by mail. Make check payments out to the City of Ruston and send your B&O Tax form and payment to 5219 N Shirley Street Ruston WA 98407. For more information about B&O Taxes and deadlines visit the City Clerk page.

The City of Ruston contracts court services through the City of Fircrest, please visit www.cityoffircrest.net/court/ for payment options.

There a few residential building permits that can generally be issued same day, or over the counter. These over the counter (OTC) type permits apply to residential projects only for plumbing, mechanical, re-roofing and re-siding permits. A special event permit is issue for a variety of events which require a permit to operate in the City of Ruston. The list below are a few examples of events that will require a special event permit:

  • Farmer’s markets
  • Races/Marathons
  • Parades
  • Outdoor concerts

The City of Ruston’s parks and facilities can be reserved for a variety of uses. Our Parks and Facilities page has information on the forms and approved uses of each facility. Contact the City Clerk when you are ready to submi ta the request form and to provide the deposit fee.

The City of Ruston purchases power from our neighbor Tacoma Power. When Tacoma Power increases electrical rates, the City of Ruston increases its electrical rates.

Residential/Commercial customer’s base rate is $24.25. Low-income disabled and low-income senior customer base rate is $19.74. Effective March 21, 2023, the City of Ruston’s residential/commercial rate is $0.1114 per kWh (kilowatt-hour). Low-income disabled and low-income senior residential rate is $0.0795 per kWh (kilowatt-hour).

Effective March 21, 2024, the City of Ruston’s residential/commercial rate will be $0.1157 per kWh (kilowatt-hour). Low-income disabled and low-income senior residential rate is $0.0826 per kWh (kilowatt-hour).
